Partnership between BOP and norm

NORM and BOP have entered into a strategic partnership to provide property owners and asset managers with access to dynamic building simulations.

The cooperation combines two key competencies:

  • NORM provides 3D building models from the digitisation of existing buildings.

  • BOP offers simulation solutions for analysing and optimising energy performance and thermal comfort.

A key benefit for customers: BOP can work directly on NORM's 3D model. The otherwise necessary modeling step is eliminated, eliminating a large portion of the costs for building simulations and allowing projects to be implemented faster and more cost-effectively.

Advantages of dynamic simulation of heating power demand

  1. Precise dimensioning of heating output. Determine actual demand instead of flat-rate surcharges. Avoid oversized systems and unnecessary investments.

  2. Reduced operating costs Properly designed systems operate in the optimal efficiency range, reduce energy consumption and increase service life.

  3. Consideration of real conditions Weather data, building orientation, regulations, usage profiles and internal loads can be included in the calculation.

  4. Scenario comparison for future climate conditions Analysis of different climate scenarios as a basis for long-term decisions.

Practical examples

1. Efficient renovation of an office building in Zurich

As part of an energy-efficient renovation of a commercial property in Zurich, BOP analyzed the actual heating power requirements using dynamic simulation based on the NORM 3D model.

The result: The planned heating output was reduced from 460 kW to 360 kW – without compromising comfort. The customer saved over CHF 40,000 by selecting a smaller heat pump.

2. Optimized connection power for a logistics center

NORM developed a renovation concept for the logistics center with connection to the local district heating network.

BOP precisely simulated the required connected load – with pleasing results: Instead of the currently installed 510 kW, only 300 kW of heating power was required. This saves the customer over CHF 20,000 in annual connection fees.

Conclusion: Building simulation pays off

The new partnership between NORM and BOP brings clear added value to property owners and asset managers. The direct use of precise NORM 3D models in BOP's dynamic building simulations eliminates time-consuming and costly additional steps. The result is reliable performance values that enable precise dimensioning, lower investment and operating costs, and reduce energy consumption in the long term. At the same time, the simulations create planning reliability – even under changing climate conditions – and support well-founded decisions for the energy-efficient future of buildings. The return on investment of the analysis is clear and quickly measurable, as the savings often exceed the initial analysis costs several times over in the first year.
